Collective Worship

“Women in time to come will do much.” – Mary Ward

Our Chaplaincy

The Chaplaincy sits at the heart of spiritual life at St Mary’s. It provides relevant spiritual and pastoral support to all students, parents, and staff, embracing our Catholic identity and drawing inspiration from our Foundress, Mary Ward. The Chaplaincy welcomes and serves the whole school community, including those who are:

  • Practising Catholics
  • Experiencing Church for the first time at St Mary’s
  • From other Christian denominations
  • From other faith backgrounds or none

Our Mission

  • Offer pastoral support to students, staff, and the wider school community
  • Provide opportunities for prayer, worship, and sacraments, including Mass and Reconciliation
  • Encourage the whole school’s involvement in community service and charitable fundraising

Collective Worship & Liturgy

Each student participates in a three-weekly cycle of Mass, Gospel Service, and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament from Years 1-6. Weekly hymn practices and Collective Worship, led by Year 6 Pupil Chaplains, provide further opportunities for spiritual growth. Whole School Masses are celebrated on special occasions, including:

  • Welcome Mass (September)
  • Feast of the Immaculate Conception (December 8th)
  • Mary Ward Day (January 24th)
  • Ash Wednesday
  • Ascension Day
  • Feast of Saints Peter and Paul (June 29th)

Welcome to St Mary’s School, Hampstead

Our school strives to nurture an active partnership between home, school, parish, and the wider North London community. Situated in one of London’s most affluent and scenic areas, our school is an excellent choice for families in North London who want their daughters to receive a premier education in a safe, nurturing, and inspiring locale.

“Our St Mary’s Way is the spirit by which we live: to treat other people as you would like to be treated, to do your best to be your best, to be honest and truthful, to listen to each other, to be kind and helpful, to forgive, and to share.”

Charlotte Owen, Headmistress
