On Wednesday, St. Mary’s hosted our annual House & STEAM Day, an enriching event championing the importance of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) in girls’ education. This exciting day enabled all our girls to explore and develop their skills in a variety of engaging activities.
Throughout the day, each class took part in the BEBRAS Challenge, an online competition that encourages pupils to solve complex computational thinking problems. The competition is an international event designed to promote digital literacy and critical thinking skills in an accessible and fun way.
Our iPad Coding session allowed girls to take a hands-on approach to learning technology, as they designed and coded their own video games.
In the afternoon, girls joined their House teams to participate in an Arcade Game Challenge, where they were tasked with creating a fully functional arcade game using only recycled materials. The creativity displayed by all the teams was wonderful! Following this, the girls enjoyed a showcase of their homemade arcade games and a chance to play.
Upper School took part in a thoughtful discussion on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI. They explored the ethical implications of AI in modern society and used their new knowledge to generate AI images of their respective Houses.
We are very proud of all our girls for their enthusiasm, teamwork, and commitment to exploring the world of STEAM. This event was a valuable opportunity for them to develop skills that will serve them well in the future and reinforce our dedication to providing a well-rounded education at St. Mary’s.
